Our third episode pays tribute to The Greatest. Mugambi and Sharon play music from two documentaries that covered Muhammad Ali’s most renowned fight; the Rumble In The Jungle. This landmark 1974 fight against George Foreman was preceded by a grand concert bringing together Africa’s and Black America’s biggest acts. The fight, the concert and the worldwide media coverage were a defining moment in African and African-American music, artistry, politics and culture. Mugambi and Sharon will discuss music from the films ‘When We Were Kings’ and ‘Soul Power’, and examine the immense effect Ali had on the times, then and now.
